Abstract

1486581 Driving posts LEDGER POWER TOOLS Ltd 9 Sept 1974 39329/74 Heading E1H An anvil 2 is clamped to a post 1 to allow it to be driven into, or withdrawn from, the ground by blows from a sledgehammer. The anvil 2 is mounted on a support 3 connected by pivoted links 4 to a cam 5 arranged so that a blow in direction A tends to tighten the cam on the post 1. The cam 5 and handle 6 are preferably formed from a single tube. and the support 3 is formed from three tubular steel sections 7, 8. 9 welded together side by side with the centre section set back to provide a recess for the post. The corners of the sections are rounded, and the face of the cam 5 is concave to minimize damage to the post. The links 4 are bent to provide resilience.
