Abstract

1486408 Electromagnetic flaw detectors NOVALEC Ltd 5 Sept 1974 [5 June 1973] 26886/73 Heading G1N An electromagnetic flaw detector of the type including an oscillator whose output amplitude of oscillations vary in accordance with a flow is arranged for use with ferrous electrically conductive non-ferrous and austenitic materials. A probe comprising coil 11 wound on core 10 of ferrite material having a projecting tip 10a for bringing into contact with a surface of the material to be tested is connected to form part of the frequency determining circuit of grounded ease transistor oscillator 18. The output oscillations developed across emitter resistor 22 are fed via capacitor 26, diode 27 and emitter follower 28 to the base of transistor 37 connected with resistors 38, 39, 41 and diodes 40 to form a bridge circuit across the diagonal of which is connected indicator 42. In operation tip 10a is placed on the material and potentiometer 32 forming part of a clamping circuit for the base of transistor 28 is varied to give a convenient indication on meter 32, the frequency of the oscillator being immaterial. Any subsequent variation in oscillation amplitude indicative of a flow is indicated on meter 42 which may have an arcuate indicator with coloured segments Fig. 3 (not shown).
