Abstract

The quantity of water or humidity in contact with the body of a measuring equipment is detected by measuring resistivity between two electrodes. Humidity decreases the resistivity. By having small probes it is possible to effect measurements in small locations. A probe attached to a box is constructed of a central wire surrounded by a tube with isolating material between them. The central conductor is longer than the tube by an amount depending on the required nominal resistivity. The central conductor (9) is connected to a transistor (16a) base via a resistor (17a). A capacitor (18) from this base to a second transistor (16) collector with the probe outer connected to its emitter causes low frequency oscillation in a speaker (15). Increase of humidity causes increases in frequency.
