Abstract
1,115,276. Electro-physical measurement; control &c. W. E. JOHNSON and M. S. STEELE. Feb. 27, 1967 [March 1, 1966], No. 8872/66. Heading G1N. A probe device for measuring the thickness of one of two contiguous layers of material having different electrical characteristics comprises a first terminal 13 surrounded by a pronged second terminal 14,15, both terminals being connected to an electrical detector circuit 24. A. sleeve 20 surrounds the terminals and a compression spring 20 is disposed between the casing and a mounting block 18. In use, the terminals are pressed against. the spring 20 into the material under examination, and the change of layer is determined by the circuit 24, the depth of the layer being measured by a metal tape 26 which moves simultaneously with depression of the terminals, across a scale 27.
