Abstract

1486347 Thermal insulation N BUCKLEY 10 Aug 1976 [25 July 1975] 31122/75 Heading F2X An article of heat insulation, e.g. a jacket for insulating hot water tanks, comprises heat insulating material disposed in a pocket, one portion of the side wall of which is formed of glass fabric and the remaining portion of plastics material or textile fabric coated with plastics material. As shown in Fig. 2, a pocket 2 filled with insulating material 4, e.g. fibre glass, mineral wool or textile wadding, has its side wall formed of two elongate pieces 6, 8, each extending along the length of the wall and having adjoining edges stitched together to form a seal 10. The piece 6 is formed of a woven glass fabric and the piece 10 of plastics material or a textile fabric formed from conventional fibres and coated with plastics material. The plastics material can be P.V.C. or polythene. In use the pocket 2 is placed as lagging on a hot water tank (Fig. 1, not shown) in conjunction with a number of similar pockets. The piece 6 of glass fabric is placed next to the side of the tank because of its excellent heat withstanding properties. The pointed ends of the pockets 2 fit nearly together over the dome of the tank and hooks 12 at these ends are attached together by a tape. The pockets 2 are also held in place by straps. If desired a portion of the side wall of the pocket can also comprise heat reflecting material.
