VSES NI INST ISPOLZOV GAZA V NARODNOM KHOZYAIST PODZEM KHRANENIA NEFTI NEFTERPRODUCTOV SZHIZHENNYKH GAZOV "VNIIPROMGAZ" 9 Feb 1976 4995/76 Heading E1F A method of providing a mineral-bearing bed with a well comprises drilling until the top of the bed is opened up, ceasing drilling determining the depth of the top and bottom of the bed, resuming drilling, stopping drilling before reaching ,the bottom of the bed, fitting a casing string, and drilling the pillar left between the bottom of the casing string and the bottom of the bed. Preferably the depth of the top of the bed is determined by gamma-ray logging, an instrument for gamma-ray logging being lowered into the drill string. The drilling of the pillar left between the bottom of the casing string and the bottom of the bed is effected using a gaseous agent or water.
