Abstract
1485455 Nitrogen alloyed deep drawing steel ARMCO STEEL CORP 24 Sept 1974 41501/74 Heading C7A Cold reduced and annealed steel sheet stock of thickness 0À5 to 2À29 mm (0À02 to 0.09 inches) and average yield strength of at least 70 ksi(483 MN/m<SP>2</SP>; consisting of and sufficient nitrogen to combine substantially with the Ti and/or Nb and/or Zr, remainder iron and impurities. The steel may be produced by providing a deep drawing quality steel containing: C 0À002 to 0À015% N 2 0 to 0À012% Total Al 0 to 0À08% cold-rolling the steel to 0À5 to 2.29 mm, annealing and heating in an atmosphere of 2 to 10 volume per cent ammonia and hydrogen at 1100‹ to 1350‹F for a period of time sufficient to form small uniformly dispersed nitrides and to raise the yield strength to at least 70 ksi. The steel may be deep drawn prior to the nitriding treatment and may be subsequently denitrided in a hydrogen atmosphere at 1100 to 1350‹F for a period of time sufficient to decrease the ductile to brittle transition temperature to at least -60‹F.
