Abstract

1485316 Spray-dried detergent compositions PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 17 Jan 1975 [18 Jan 1974] 2103/75 Heading C5D A spray-dried detergent composition having a density of 280 to 550 g./litre is produced by a process comprising (a) forming an aqueous slurry comprising 4 to 30% by weight of a water-soluble nonionic detergent, the slurry optionally containing additional water-soluble anionic, ampholytic or zwitterionic detergents in an amount not exceeding 50% by weight of the total organic detergent, from 8 to 55% by weight of an alkaline detergency builder and from 0À15 to 0À6% by weight of a phosphate ester (defined) of formula (RO) 2 Pb(OH), wherein R is H or R 1 (OC 2 H 4 ), wherein n is 0 to 30 and R 1 is a C 8 -C 22 alkyl or alkenyl group when n is 0 and a C 2 -C 22 alkyl or alkenyl group when n is 1 to 30 provided not more than one R is H, the balance being water; and (b) spray-drying the slurry to form granules. The phosphate ester has a beneficial effect on the density of the product. The compositions may comprise sodium sulphate, scdium tripolyphosphate, sodium silicate, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, sodium E.D.T.A. bentonite, calcium carbonate and sodium carbonate. The non- ionic detergent may be an ethoxylated alcohol or ethoxylated alkyl phenol.
