Abstract
1485025 Rolling of panels HERMANN BERSTOFF MASCHINENBAU GmbH 19 Nov 1974 [3 Dec 1973 1 April 1974] 50143/74 Heading B5A Chip or fibreboard panels are produced by feeding the material 1 with a thermoplastics binder on to an endless belt 2 that leads the layer through alternate zones of higher and lower pressure, the higher pressures being produced by the nips between rollers and one of these zones having a length of at least 7 cm. (measured from the position at which the layer is engaged by both rollers, to the position of least gap thickness), and the lower pressures being produced by the nip between a drum and the endless belt. In Fig. 1, the nip between inlet roller 3 and driven press roller 4 is adjustable for the boarding thickness, and one or more presser rollers 7 are adjustable in pressure. Rollers 8 finally calibrate the boarding thickness, and rotate at a high speed for polishing and to apply surface films (not shown). The rollers are steam heated and the belt is heated by infra-red radiators in the pressing zone, while the return run of belt 2 and a support roller 6 are cooled. In an alternative embcdiment (Fig. 5, not reproduced) roller 4 is supplemented by further rollers and these all are surrounded by an endless belt.
