Abstract

1484056 Mixing liquids NEW ZEALAND INVENTIONS DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY 25 Oct 1974 46275/74 Heading B1C An apparatus for mixing liquids of different specific gravity and especially for adding anti-foaming medicament to water in a cattle trough to prevent bloat comprises a bottle 1 which is weighted to a lead collar 3 and partly filled with medicament 12 leaving an air space 15 so that it will float in the inverted position. Medicament seeps out through the pipe 7 and is replaced by water through pipe 4. The outlet end 8 of pipe 7 has a replaceable metering orifice and a weight 10, and is positioned near water inlet 11 to the trough to promote mixing. If the specific gravity of the medicament is less than that of water the bottle is weighted to rest on the bottom of the trough, the weight 10 is replaced by a float, and the lengths of the pipes 4 and 6 in the bottle are interchanged. In a modification, see Fig. 2 (not shown), to provide a decreasing dispensing rate, the length of the tube 4 is decreased so that same mixing takes place in the bottle, and the outlet tube 7 is shortened so that the outflow head is decreased as dense liquid in the bottle is replaced by lighter. The bottle may be coloured to heat the contents by solar radiation.
