Abstract
1483599 Electrostatic precipitators PLESSEY CO Ltd 9 Dec 1974 [5 Nov 1973] 18995/76 Divided out of 1483598 Heading B2J An electrostatic precipitator comprising a housing 16; a plurality of parallel precipitation electrode plates 19; fan means 33, 34, for causing air to flow between the plates e.g. 29; and linear conductor means 22 extending between the plates 29 in a direction parallel to the plates 29 and normal to the air flow, is characterised in that the housing 16 has at least one opening which allows the plates 29 to be removed, while leaving the conductor means 12 in the housing 16. In Fig. 3 and Fig. 4 (not shown), preliminary ionisation is caused by a corona discharge wire 22, and two electrode assemblies 19 with alternate plates connected to negative and positive voltages are located on connectors 20, 21 respectively in the housing 16. In use, two doors e.g. 26, are closed, and fans 33, 34, cause air taken in through filters 35, 36 to flow between the plates e.g. 29, and via windows 37, 39 into a replaceable activated carbon filter panel 40 mounted in the outer face of the door 26. Fig. 1 (not shown) shows an embodiment with two electrodes in the form of earthed plates 1, 2, of e.g. aluminium or metallised cardboard or plastics, slidably mounted in plastics guides 3 and partially surrounding a corona discharge wire 5 of e.g. nickel chrome connected to a D.C. voltage of e.g. 5-10 kv. Either embodiment may include a safety arrangement to prevent the electrodes being touched while energised. Reference is made to the Parent Specification.
