Abstract

1483520 Printing pastes BASF AG 2 Dec 1974 [13 Dec 1973] 53733/74 Heading C3P [Also in Division D1] A composition for printing textiles comprises a pigment, water, a thickener, a binder, and, present in the paste in the form of an emulsified liquid from 1-6% of the paste weight of an ester containing 16-80 carbon atoms and which is formed from a C 6-30 aromatic, aliphatic, or alicyclic carboxylic acid having 1 to 4 carboxylic groups and a C 1-30 aliphatic alcohol having 1-3 carbon atoms, the aliphatic or alicyclic compounds being either saturated or monoethylenically unsaturated. The compositions are preferably free of white spirit. Suitable compositions contain ammonium polyacrylate and crosslinked copolymers of maleic anhydride, vinyl methyl ether and vinyl propionate as thickeners and copolymers of butyl acrylate, styrene, acrylonitrile, methylol acrylamide and acrylic acid or of ethyl acrylate, acrylonitrile and methyl methacrylamide. The exemplified esters are di-(2-ethylhexyl)isoheptadecane dicarboxylate and tri-decyl citrate.
