Abstract

1483432 Fusing apparatus XEROX CORP 8 May 1975 [27 June 1974] 19408/75 Heading G2H [Also in Division H5] Fusing apparatus for an electrostatographic printing machine includes a passageway, endless chains 42 provided with grippers (64), Fig. 3 (not shown), for advancing a sheet (62) bearing toner particles through the passageway, heating means closely adjacent but spaced from the surface of the advancing sheet, and contact means having a plurality of fins 58 extending transversely to the direction 54 of sheet advance for contacting the opposite surface of the sheet to support it. Some of the fins may be parallel, and some non-parallel to each other. Various cross-sections for the fins are specified. The heating means includes a radiant heating plate (74) in the top 60 of a housing defining the passageway. The plate is of metal and has parallel, circular cross-section grooves in which tubular heating elements 76 are located. The elements have heating coils the turns of which are more closely spaced at the ends than the middle to effect a heating gradient therealong.
