Abstract
1483323 Plate brick NIPPON KOKAN KK and TOKYO YOGYO KK 22 Jan 1976 [29 Jan 1975] 02447/76 Heading C1J A plate brick for a slide closure of a vessel for holding molten metal is characterized in that the brick is made by forming and subjecting to reducing-burning a mixture comprising an acid or neutral refractory (e.g. burnt clay, highly siliceous material, high aluminous material or high-zirconia material) as a base material; 2-20% of graphite; clay, tar or pitch or a mixture of tar and pitch as a binding agent; and optionally a sintering agent (e.g. silicon carbide or nitride, metallic silicon or ferrosilicon). The proportion of binding agent may be 2-30%, and of the sintering agent may be 1- 10%, of the total mixture. The burnt product may be impregnated with tar or pitch (or mixture thereof) and further subjected to reducing- burning to thereby completely remove the volatile constituents in the brick and to fill its pores with carbon.
