Abstract

1482831 Crimping ferrule AMP Inc 29 Aug 1975 [12 Sept 1974] 35681/75 Heading H2E A crimping ferrule for insulated wires comprises grooves 20-28 transversely of its longitudinal axis, the grooves each having one side wall 80, 88, facing in one axial direction, at an angle of preferably between 100 and 120 degrees to the corresponding floor 40-42 and 45, and a second wall 70-78 facing in the opposite direction at a constant angle of preferably 100 degrees to the floor, the depth of the grooves decreasing in the one direction and the first walls progressively diverging from the second walls in the one direction. The floors of the grooves are preferably parallel with one another to give trapezoidal grooves, and the crests 61-67, which are equidistant from the longitudinal axis, preferably become wider in said one direction. The grooves are preferably formed by drawing sharp tools across a blank so that barbs 90, 91 are produced, helping to pierce the insulation of the wire to be crimped. Two wires may be spliced together in one ferrule. A number of ferrules may be joined together, as a strip, by slugs 18.
