Abstract

1482768 Friction clutches AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS Ltd 18 Dec 1975 [23 Dec 1974] 55447/74 Heading F2C [Also in Division B3] A clutch cover is formed from an initially flat strip of sheet metal (Fig. 1) which is bent to a cylindrical shape, its ends 17 and 18 welded together and tapered portions 15 extend radially inwardly by folding along a line 12, to support a diaphragm spring 22. A flange 114, formed by folding a portion 14 of the strip along line 13, has bolts passed through it to secure the cover to a flywheel 24. In the embodiment shown portions 16 are bent to support the spring 22 between rings 19 and 21. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 6, not shown) the spring 22 is supported on rivets and the ring 19 is replaced by ribs formed on the cover. An annular plate 20 is welded (as shown) or riveted to the portions 15 to strengthen them. Apertures 37 are provided through which lugs of a presser plate 31 extend for the attachment of straps interconnecting the presser plate and the flywheel.
