Abstract

1482689 Mixing in conduits KOMAX SYSTEMS INC 19 Dec 1974 [27 Dec 1973] 54932/74 Heading B1C A static mixer comprises a conduit 2 having therein a plurality of alternate mirrorimage mixing elements 6, 8 each having a flat rectangular central portion 10 and pairs of ears 12, 14 and 16, 18 at opposite ends bent upwards and downwards. The eared portions of adjacent elements overlap to define zones where material is given simultaneous rotational movement in both directions and simultaneous inward and outward movement, alternating with zones where no rotational or radial forces are exerted on it. The angle between the ears of each pair may be 30‹- 120‹ and typically 90‹. The elements may be fabricated from flat sheet and "sprung" into the conduit without being fixed to it, so that the conduit may be curved or flexible. The material to be mixed is preferably supplied in coaxial streams.
