1482566 Power-steering systems for vehicles K H THOMAS [trading as LANGEN & CO] 24 Oct 1974 [9 Nov 1973] 46079/74 Heading B7H A power-steering system in a motor vehicle comprises a nut 8 axially stationary, but rotatable relative to a differential piston 4, one side 14 of which is subjected to constant pressure from a source 44. The nut has a lever 19 secured thereto so that on movement of the steering wheel, the nut and lever are moved correspondingly to move a reaction piston 23 and a valve spool 27 to cause flow of pressure fluid to or from the other side 15 of the piston to thus provide power assistance for moving the piston and turning the steerable wheels. Feel is provided by fluid in chambers 37, 43 the former chamber receiving via groove 36 fluid from the source 44, and the latter chamber being in communication with the pressure fluid acting on side 15. The ratio of effective areas of the piston end faces 14, 15 is equal to that of areas 42, 38, e.g. 1 : 2.
