Abstract

148,167. Boeken, H. J. May 23, 1914, [Convention date]. Breaking and scutching apparatus; heckling-machines; grip-chain and like arrangements for feeding, holding, and conveying fibrous materials. - Apparatus for treating fibrous plants to obtain fibre therefrom, comprises two drums and their concaves located on opposite sides of a single endless conveyer rope &c. which carries the material through the entire machine. The rope 1, Fig. 1, runs under a gripping-pulley 6, and over a pulley 2 downwards to a pulley 4, up to a second pulley on the same shaft 3 as the pulley 2, and then under the gripping-pulley 7. The grip on the material is shifted laterally between the pulleys on the shaft 3 to allow the untreated portion of the material to be treated by the second drum 11. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also (a) concaves provided with an adjustable rim 14, Fig. 11, (Cancelled), which rises above the rim of the gripping-pulley and ex. tends beyond the edges of the drum, whereby the material is bent and the grip increased; (b) drums provided with radially adjustable bars 25, Fig. 8, (Cancelled), and sectional flanges 27, which are also adjustable relatively to one another and overlap to maintain their continuity when the bars 25 are adjusted. On the entering side, an adjustable rim member 39, Fig. 5, (Cancelled), mounted on the frame, overlaps the flanges 27 on the drum. On the leaving side, a second rim member 37 is provided, which is overlapped by the flange on the drum. This rim member is slotted and heckle pins, mounted on a slowly driven belt passing round a pulley 46, project through the slot to operate on the material. The pulley 46 is adjustable in a curved slot in accordance with the length of the fibre being treated, and plates at the ends of the slot are adjustable along the slot to conform with the position of the pulley. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
