1481585 Bone and bone joint treating apparatus TSENTRAL N-I INST TRAVMATOLOGII I ORTOPEDII IMENI N N PRIOROVA 10 June 1975 24891/75 Heading A5R Apparatus for treating bone joints and fractured bones, comprises two needles 9, 10, Fig. 7, secured in respective braces 3, 4 and for driving through a first bone of a joint, and two needles 37, 38 secured in respective braces 35, 36 and for driving through a second bone of the joint, each pair of needles and associated braces forming a rigid system interconnected by two distractors 14, each distractor comprising two components interconnected by an arrangement of two guides 24, 25 and two sliders in the guides and attached to the respective distrator component whereby on turning a drive screw the slider is propelled along the respective guide, thus making it possible to move one rigid system with respect to the other in two mutually perpendicular directions. The distance between the two rigid systems may be changed by rotating the distractor components on which are provided split nuts 13 cooperating with the screw thread on the end of each distractor. A further rigid system composed of braces 1, 2 and respective needles 7, 8 may be secured to brace 3 by distractors 11 to treat a fractured bone as well as the bone joint treated by the first two such rigid systems. The braces 2, 3 and 4, 35 are each connected at their top by a bending- unbending arrangement consisting of a universal joint 23. This arrangement serves for restoring the bending-unbending function of the joint in joint therapy and for eliminating angular displacements of bone portions in treating fractures. When a knee joint is being treated, each distractor 16, Fig. 3 is connected at one end to brace 2 by polycentric mechanism 17-19 simulating the knee joint movement. In treating elbow joints, for example, each distractor 14 is connected at one end to the respective brace by means of a bearing mounted on the brace coaxially with needle 10, Fig. 7. For treating the interphalangeal joints, a similar apparatus is provided, Fig. 9, but being modified in that the two needles 46, 47 for driving through a first bone of the joint are connected to a single brace 42 and that one of the guide and slider arrangements 51 is common to both portions of a single distractor 48.
