1496738 Apparatus for treatment of the knee joint TSENTRAL N I INST TRAVMATOLOGII I ORTOPEDII IMENI NN PRIOROVA 10 June 1975 24895/75 Heading A5R Apparatus for surgical treatment of the knee joint, comprises needles 5, 6 for driving through one of the joint ends and secured in respective braces 2, 1, needles 7, 8 for driving through the other joint end and secured in respective braces 3, 4, each pair of needles and their associated braces defining a rigid system, and distractors 11 interconnecting the rigid systems and each being fixed at one end to brace 3 and being connected at the other end to brace 1 by a polycentric mechanism 12 simulating the movement of the knee joint. The braces 1, 3 are connected at the top by a bending-unbending device 25 formed by two rods 26, 27 interconnected by a universal joint 28. In a modification, each pair of needles may be secured in a single brace. The mechanism 12 comprises a bar 13 pivotally connected at one end with the needle 6 and at the other end with a bar 18 fixed to the distractor 11. Bar 18 is pivotally connected at its other end to a bar 19 which in turn is pivotally connected to a part 21 of brace 1. The distance between braces 1, 3 is adjustable by cooperation of the distractors 11 with split nuts 23.
