Abstract
1481061 Fuel injection valve for I C engine ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 20 Aug 1974 [21 Aug 1973] 36510/74 Heading F1B The invention relates to an electro-mechanically controlled fuel injection valve for I.C. engines, the opening of the valve being controlled by an electromechanical transducer such as an electromagnet. The valve shown comprises a housing 11 to which fuel is supplied from an injection pump through inlet 21a comprising a check valve 19, the fuel passing to a storage chamber 12 from which it passes through passages including ducts 16a, 16b and restriction 62 to a pressure chamber 18 the outlet 37 of which is controlled by axially movable needle valve 39. A plunger 13 is mounted in the housing 11 and extends at its lower end into the fuel storage chamber 12, the upper end of the plunger carrying a plate 55 which is loaded by spring 14. A second plunger 59 is located in the housing and may be abutted by the plunger 13, the plunger 59 co-operating at its lower end with the needle valve 39. The upper end of the plunger 59 is secured to an armature 61 of the electromagnet 24, the arrangement being such that when a charge of fuel is delivered into the storage chamber 12 the plunger 13 is moved upwardly by the fuel pressure against the loading of the spring 14. Upon receipt of a signal, the solenoid 33 is energized, the armature 61 is raised and with it the plunger 59; the needle valve 39 also lifts since the pressure at the lower side of the needle valve is much greater than that at its upper side, against the loading of the spring 43 whereby the fuel charge in the chamber 18 is discharged into the cylinder. The chamber 44 in which the adjacent ends of the plunger 59 and the needle valve 39 are disposed is connected to space 51 in which the spring 14 is disposed, the space being connected to the fuel return line 54; the connection is by way of ducts 45, 46, 47, annular space 48 and duct 49. The electrical supply lines to the solenoid 33 are indicated at 36.
