1480950 Acyl substituted benzyl ethers SANDOZ Ltd 4 Dec 1974 [6 Dec 1973 8 Aug 1974] 52399/74 Heading C2C Novel compounds I in which each of R 1 and R 2 is H, F, Cl, straight chain C 1-4 alkyl or straight chain C 1-4 alkoxy, each of R 3 and R 4 is Me or Et and n is 0 or 1, but excluding p-(4-methoxyphenoxymethyl)- pivalophenone, are prepared by reacting a compound II in which X is Cl or Br, with a compound III in which M is Na, K or Li, in the presence of an inert organic solvent. α - Bromo - p - pivaloyltoluene is prepared by reacting p-tolyl magnesium bromide with pivaloyl chloride and treating the resulting p-pivaloyl-toluene with N-bromosuccinimide. Pharmaceutical compositions having hypolipedemic activity, for oral administration, comprise a compound I together with a pharmaceutical carrier.
