Abstract

1480703 Variable capacitors STANDEX INTERNATIONAL CORP 25 Feb 1975 7853/75 Heading H1M In a variable capacitor wherein the movable electrode is a threaded piston 44 axially displaceable within insulating sleeve 22 supporting the fixed electrode 26, air gaps between the flattened peaks 46 of the screw thread and the inner wall of sleeve 22 are minimized by having the piston 44 slightly oversize and providing a longitudinal slot 42 in the sleeve 22 and associated members to permit radial expansion thereof. As shown sleeve 22 has a second metal coating 24 spaced from fixed electrode 26 and terminal members 28 and 30 have slotted sleeve portions slid over and soldered to metal coatings 26 and 24 respectively, terminal 28 being connected to piston 44 by spring portions 45. Sleeve 22 may be formed by bending a flat sheet of, e.g. p.t.f.e. having the appropriate metal pattern thereon (Figs. 8-11, not shown).
