Abstract
1480469 Preparation of dinitronaphthalenes BAYER AG 11 Feb 1976 [12 Feb 1975] 05393/76 Heading C2C A process for the preparation of a dinitronaphthalene comprises reacting a nitronaphthalene at a temperature of from 20 to 50 C. with 60 to 80% strength by weight aqueous nitric acid and separating the dinitronaphthalene from the reaction mixture. The residual nitric acid may then be enriched with more highly concentrated nitric acid until a concentration of 60 to 80% by weight is reached and then used in a further nitrating reaction. In general 4 to 12 mols of nitric acid are reacted with 1 mol of nitronaphthalene.
