Abstract

1480437 Automatic current control BBC BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 5 Feb 1975 [7 Feb 1974] 4940/75 Heading G3R A closed loop current regulator, using a converter which may deliver continuous or interrupted current, includes an amplifier with RC feedback. The changeover from continuous to interrupted current is detected, and causes the integral component of amplification to be increased while the proportional component is unchanged. As shown in Fig. 4, a variable gain amplifier 201 has actual and desired value inputs 206, 207 and an RC feedback path 204, 205. During continuous current operation, a field effect transistor 202 is held non-conductive. A zero current indicator circuit 216 detects interrupted current operation, and responds by turning on the transistor switch 202, thereby connecting the feedback capacitor 204 to earth through a resistor 213 and effectively reducing the capacitance in the feedback loop. A further circuit including a transistor 225 and capacitor 226 operates to maintain drive current to the transistor 202 between intervals in the converter current.
