Abstract
1436627 Automatic gain control MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 5 July 1973 32197/73 Heading H4R In response to a sudden change of input, an amplifier 8 in an age circuit produces two outputs varying differently in time which are rectified 18 and 12, 13 to produce D.C. control signals of which one is immediate and subsequently reduces whilst the other gradually increases, the combination controlling a variable impedance so as to exhibit negligible overshoot. As shown, a sudden increase in input level produces a corresponding output in the emitter circuit which is converted to a gradually increasing D.C. by the voltage doubler circuit 10-15 as capacitor 14 charges. The reduced impedance of the diodes 12, 13 increases the gain of the transistor 8 causing an immediate response in the collector circuit which diminishes as the gain reduces and capacitor 14 charges to the steady state value. In Fig. 5 (not shown) the impedance 22 is an FET (40) whose gate is controlled by the emitter circuit and whose source is connected to earth through a transistor (41) turned off by a monostable (61) triggered by the collector circuit to reduce overall gain during the overshoot period. The FET controls the feedback resistance of an op-amp (2).
