Abstract
1480153 Coking coal POLITECHNIKA SLASKA IM WINCENTEGO PSTROWSKIEGO 31 Jan 1975 [31 Jan 1974] 4389/75 Heading C5E A furnace for producing a high-calorific gas, and coke, from coal consists of two heating chambers 2 of rectangular cross-section through which coal is progressively advanced by reciprocating rams 7, coke or semi-coke being discharged therefrom through feed devices 11. In a first zone 1, hot gas is passed inwardly through the coal charges, thus preheating the coal to a molten or semi-molten state and partially degassing it. In a second zone, the molten charges are indirectly heated by hot combustion gases flowing through channels 3. In a third zone, the cooled gas from the chamber 10 (first zone) flows through the coke, absorbing heat from it, before passing out of conduits 12. Part is then compressed by blower 14 and flows through a heat exchanger 13 where it is reheated for recirculation to the first zone. Surplus gas is withdrawn via an outlet conduit 15. It is stated that the walls of the chambers may be made downwardly divergent to reduce the likelihood of clogging.
