Abstract

1479829 Locking hinges G WOHLHUTER 7 July 1975 [5 July 1974] 28471/75 Heading E2F In a tilting mechanism for parasols, upper 4 and lower 3 tubular sections of the parasol pole are interconnected by a pivot pin 5 through a mortise 2a and tenon 6 connection formed of upper and lower members 2, 1 on which the upper and lower tubular sections 4, 3 respectively are fitted. Associated with the upper member 2 is a spring-urged locking bolt 11 having a smaller diameter portion 13 adapted to engage in one of a number of recesses or notches 7, 8, 9 to lock the upper section of the parasol pole 4 in variable angular positions. Movement of the locking bolt 11 is controlled by a member 14 having arms 15, 16 engaging slots in the locking bolt 11. The sliding movement of the member 14 is limited by a stud 17 engaging a small groove 18 formed in the upper member 2. In an alternative embodiment (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown) the recesses provided in the tenon extend parallel to the pivot pin and are adapted to be engaged by a bolt with a hooked member at one end which selectively engages the recesses under the influence of a spring.
