Abstract

1455803 Stays ETABS GEORGES KLEIN 2 April 1974 [3 April 1973 20 Dec 1972] 14510/74 Heading E2F In a telescopic stay for windows or other movable structures, comprising two relatively telescopically displaceable members 3, 4, a cam surface 10 is provided on one member 3 which co-operates with a slidable locking member 7 to lock the displaceable members 3, 4 against relative movement in one direction whilst permitting relative movement in the other direction. As shown in Figure 2 the curvature and resilience of a leaf spring 10, forming the cam surface, are such that the weight of the window is not sufficient to cause the slidable locking member 7 to displace and pass the leaf spring 10. When an additional manual force is applied to close the window, the slidable locking member 7 will pass the leaf spring 10 and assume the position shown in Fig. 3. The manual effort required to overcome the support provided by the stay may be varied by adjustment of a grub screw 13 to alter the shape of the cam surface presented by the leaf spring 10. In an alternative embodiment, shown in Figure 8, the slidable locking member is formed by a resilient slide member 7 slidable on the inner surface of the tubular member 4 of the stay. Movement of a cam surface 10 attached to the telescopic member 3 of the stay causes the slide member to be expanded and frictionally grip the tube 4 to support the relevant load. Additional manual effort causes the cam surface 10 to pass completely through the slide member 7 to bring an abutment disc 18 against the slide member. A spring catch 21 is provided for locking the stay in its extreme open position.
