Abstract

1479702 Wax coated surfaces BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 11 March 1975 [13 March 1974 (2) 6 June 1974] 11186/74 11187/ 74 and 25084/74 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions C3, C4 and C5] A surface capable of underwater use is coated with wax, the wax coating having a thickness of from 5 to 500 micrometres and containing at least one biocide dispersed or dissolved in the wax which is effective against marine weed and/or shell growth when so dispersed or dissolved. Suitable biocides are metal salts and organic compounds containing S, Cl, N or O. In the Examples test plates are coated with compositions comprising paraffin wax, copper naphthenate, zinc stearate, 4-chloron-cresol, 6-acetoxy-2, 4-dimethyl-m-dioxane, chloramine T, p-dichlorobenzene, phenyl-dimethyl urea, poly(zinc methacrylate), polyionene-2, 4-chloride, polyionene-2, 6-bromide and poly(nickel acrylate).
