Abstract

1479504 Moulding disposable investment casting patterns KUBOTA Ltd 20 Sept 1974 [20 Sept 1973] 41040/74 Heading B5A [Also in Division C3] A moulding material for the production of disposable investment cores comprises either (a) a major proportion of naphthalene or pdichlorobenzene or (b) a major proportion of a mixture of naphthalene or p-dichlorobenzene and a wax; the material is cast at a temperature of 150‹ C. or below, preferably at a speed of 5-0À1 kg./s. The moulding material may additionally comprise a resin such as polystyrene, polyethylene or polyvinyl acetate, in a minor amount. In an example, a mould for a gas turbine blade is formed by moulding a disposable model from naphthalene (100 parts) and polystyrene (1 part) and then investing the model with a slurry of colloidal silica and fused silica flour to give a silica shell 7 mm. thick.
