Abstract
The 2-phase thermoplastic compsn. contains a thermoplastic pattern material, (I) and 5-70 (20-70) wt. % (wrt total wt.) of finely divided 4,4'-isopropylidene-diphenol (II). The compsn. is used for forming foundry patterns for precision casting. (II) has a low expansion coefft. between room temp. and 150 degrees C. In pattern compsns. it behaves as an inert aggregate. Compsns. are inert towards mould and casting material and cause no corrosion. On cooling, foundry patterns contg. (I) and (II) shrink less than patterns contg. no (II). Addn. of (II) also allows use of higher drying temps. and shorter drying times. On burning out patterns, compsns. contg. (II) leave less residual ash and cause less erosion of mould.
