1479363 Bottom end stop for sliding clasp fasteners OPTI PATENT-FORSCHUNGSUND FABRIKATIONS-AG 1 Aug 1974 [16 Aug 1973] 33991/74 Heading E2S A length of sliding clasp fastener comprises two unconnected lengths of fastener stringer 1 each having a carrier tape and a row 2 of coupling elements 14, and a bottom end stop comprising bottom end stop portions 3, 4 on the two tape lengths which are interlockable when they are brought together during assembly together of the two stringer lengths but which are not disconnectable after assembly. According to the invention, the stop portions 3, 4 are shaped to enable them to pass through a slider 5 when the slider is first mounted upon the two stringer lengths over the bottom end stop portions whereby mounting of the slider will interlock the bottom end stop portions, the bottom end stop also comprising at least one slider abutment member 6 which will become disposed in the path of the slider after the slider has been passed over the bottom end stop portions thereby preventing removal of the slider. As shown, rows 2 of moulded thermoplastics coupling elements 2, and stop members 3, 4, are moulded into the edges of the carrier tapes 1 the stop members 3, 4 having spacedapart connector elements 7, 7, and 8, 8 respectively each of which has catch faces 9 to provide an interlock when the connector elements 7, 8 are pressed together as the slider 5 is mounted upon the two tapes. The interlock between the connector elements 7, 8 prevents subsequent disassembly of the members 3, 4. Grooves 11 in the heads of the elements 7, 8 receive corresponding tongues 12 moulded into the members 3, 4 between the connector elements 7, 7, and 8, 8. Each abutment member 6 comprises a cantilever spring which is formed as an integral part of the base 10 of the respective stop member 3 or 4. In a single moulding operation, Figs. 3, 4, not shown, two tape lengths (1, 1) are provided simultaneously with rows of coupling elements (2) and bottom stop members (3, 4) the fastener elements (2, 2) being interconnected by pieces (15) leading from a central main strip (16). The coupling elements and bottom stop members may be die-cast from a suitable metal.
