Abstract

1479096 Cellular polyurethanes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 20 May 1976 [29 May 1975] 23432/75 Heading C3R A process for making cellular polyurethanes comprises reacting a linear polyester polyol that is liquid at normal room temperatures and which has a Mol. Wt. of 1000 to 3500, under foam forming conditions with a prepolymer prepared by reacting a linear polyester polyol of Mol. Wt. 1000 to 3500 and a minor amount of polyoxypropylene polyol having at least three hydroxyl groups and a molecular weight not exceeding 1000 with an excess of diphenylmethane diisocyanate. The amount of polyoxypropylene polyol does not exceed 25% on a hydroxyl equivalents basis of hydroxyl components used in making the prepolymer. In an example a mixture of a prepolymer prepared by reacting 4,41-diphenylmethane diisocyanate with poly-(diethylene) adipate Mol. Wt. 2000 and oxypropylated glycerol Mol. Wt. 600; water and a polyol blend comprising poly- (diethylene) adipate Mol. Wt. 2000, ethylene glycol, a siloxane-oxyalkylene copolymer surfactant and diazabicyclo[2,2,2]octane catalyst is allowed to foam in a closed mould using an overpacking technique to give a cellular polyurethane having a density of 0À44 g./cm.<SP>3</SP>.
