Abstract

1479004 Resistor composition MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 13 June 1974 26334/74 Heading ClJ [Also in Division H1] A PTC resistor composition is made by mixing 1 mol BaTiO 3 , in which up to 35 atom per cent of the Ba may be substituted by Sr, up to 25% by Pb, and up to 20% of the Ti substituted by Sn, with 0À08-0À15 mol per cent of Nb 2 O 5 and 0À05-0À1 mol per cent of MnO 2 . The substituent atoms vary the temperature at which a rapid increase in the coefficient occurs and the optional addition of 0À5-3 mol per cent SiO 2 and up to 2 mol per cent TiO 2 reduce the voltage dependence and increase the temperature coefficient respectively. In manufacture the component oxides or oxide yielding compounds are blended, calcined, ground, pressed into disc form, fired at 1250-1400‹ C. for ¢-5 hours in air, and cooled at less than 200‹ C. per hour to 400‹ C., and ohmic contacts provided on the disc surface.
