Abstract
1478978 Pouring nozzles for gate valves FLOGATES Ltd 11 Oct 1974 [29 Oct 1973 13 Nov 1973] 50157/73 and 52555/73 Heading F4B A pouring nozzle depending from the sliding plate of a gate for a bottom pour metallurgical vessel comprises a body part 38 of refractory material and a liner 40 extending partially and at least halfway along the bore of the nozzle from the plate end and formed of wear resistant refractory material with a heat capacity within 20% of that of fireclay. The upper part 34 of the slide plate is formed of abrasion resistant refractory, e.g. containing 85-90% Al 2 O 3 , the body part of the nozzle is formed of low density refractory, e.g. 40% Al 2 O 3 and the insert 40 is formed of erosion-resistant, low heat capacity material, e.g. stabilized zirconia. The insert is cemented into place, or may be applied as a coating to the nozzle bore. Zircon or zirconia based refractories may be used instead of stabilized zirconia.
