Abstract

1478653 Centrifugal separation HAYWARD TYLER & CO Ltd 5 June 1975 [7 June 1974] 25491/74 Heading B2P [Also in Division F1] A centrifugal pump impeller comprises a radially symmetrical casing formed by separable members 4, 11 which together bound an internal recess 8 having a central inlet port 2 and extending radially between a hub portion 4b and a rim portion 4a of the casing, and centrifugal discharge elements each comprising at least one rib 9a formed integrally with one of the separable members and including a channel 10a extending from an individual inlet opening 10d adjacent the hub portion to an outlet opening 3a. Solid particles entrained in the pumped liquid are separated centrifugally from the liquid and collect upon the peripheral outer wall 4f of the impeller. The discharge channels may be radial instead of being tangential to the tube portion 4b, or may be curved instead of being straight.
