Abstract

1478269 Reciprocating pumps CAT PUMPS INTERNATIONAL Inc 14 Oct 1975 41994/75 Heading F1A A hydraulically-actuated diaphragm pump for feeding a liquid additive into a carrier liquid comprises a diaphragm 14À1 defining a pumping chamber 14À3 with inlet and outlet check-valves 17À4, 17À5, and an actuating chamber 14À2 communicating with the pumping chamber of a carrierliquid piston pump 12À2 upstream of the pump outlet valve 13À2, which is adjustably spring-loaded to set the actuating pressure for the diaphragm pump. As shown, the carrier liquid pump comprises a plurality of bucket pistons 16À2, each comprising a sleeve slidable in a seal 16À3 and engaged by a valve disc 16À4 for the delivery stroke and a perforated disc 16À5 for the return stroke, the discs being mounted on a reciprocable pistonrod 16À1. The pump has an inlet manifold 12À4 and an outlet manifold 12À6 connected to an outlet line 12À8 to which the diaphragm pump delivers via needle valve 17À3 which is adjusted to control the diaphragm pump output. More than one of the pistons may actuate a respective diaphragm pump, Fig. 1 (not shown), the outlet check-valve 16À8 being replaced by the adjustably loaded valve 13À2, the opening pressure of which is adjusted by a spindle 13À5 acting on spring 13À4. The diaphragm pump is primed by opening a bypass valve 15À6. Diaphragm 14À1 is adjustably spring-loaded via stem 14À4 and engages projections 14À8 in its rest position shown.
