Abstract
1478175 Macrocyclic lactones TOYO JOZO KK and KITASATO INSTITUTE 18 Sept 1974 [19 Sept 1973] 40649/74 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds (I) where R<SP>1</SP> 3 is -CH 2 OH and R<SP>1</SP> 9 is -OH or R<SP>1</SP> 3 and R<SP>1</SP> 9 together form -CH(OH)O-; R 1 is H or alkanoyl; R 2 , R 4 and R 5 are alkyl; A is -CH(OR 3 )- or -CO-, R 8 being H or alkanoyl; and B is a group (S) or -CH=CH- and their preparation by treating an N-oxide (II), when R 3 is -CH 2 OH or -CHO; and R 6 and R 7 are H or alkanoyl with 3-10 molar equivalents of an acid anhydride in an inert organic solvent. The N-oxides (II) may be made by oxidizing the corresponding tert. amine, e.g. with hydrogen peroxide or an organic peracid.
