Abstract
147,784. Apple, V. G. April 23, 1917, [Convention date]. Drawings to Specification. Regulation, automatic systems and apparatus for.-An automatic regulator forming a removable attachment to a dynamo consists essentially of an electro-magnetic coil and a vibrating contact-carrying armature mounted within an iron cylinder which is included in the magnetic circuit of the coil. The detailed construction of the vibratory contactor is described in Specification 147.783. The screw-threaded outside of the cylinder screws into a correspondingly threaded hole in the coverplate of the dynamo and is so positioned that the vibratory contact is normally in rubbing engagement with a brush contact carried by the dynamo axle. The regulator is connected in circuit with a compound wound generator, a storage battery, and lamps, and acts to put a resistance into and out of circuit with the dynamo shunt-field. Details of the disposition and adjustments of the regulator are given in the Specification, which also describes a foot-operated switch for making the necessary starting and running connexions. For starting, the contact is depressed to the full extent. When the foot is taken off, the contact moves back under spring pressure to an intermediate running position where it is retained set bv a latch, which is kicked out when it is desired to return to the off position.
