1477804 Two-for-one twisting: combining strands BARMAG BARMER MASCHINENFABRIK AG 20 Jan 1975 [12 Feb 1974 16 Feb 1974] 2290/75 Headings DID and D1T In a two-for-one twisting method for twisting together strands, the strands are taken off their packages which are mounted for oscillation on driven hollow rotors whose axes coincide with the twisting axis, are guided onto and along the axis in a first direction until all the strands have passed through the last rotor in the first direction, and the strands are then deflected together as a combined strand in the opposite direction via a plurality of balloons guided by rotating balloon guides to the twisting axis at a point after the last hollow rotor in the opposite direction, the combined strand crossing the twisting axis between adjacent guides. The strand may be a filament, tape, ribbon, wire, cable, tow or yarn. As shown, Fig. 1, members 11.1, 4.1 and 11.2, 4.2 are rotated at the same speed by shaft 12, and strands 9.2, 9.1 drawn from pivotable stationary spools 1, 2 are doubled within member 41, pass through twist stop rollers 7 and aperture 17 and onto member 11.1 to form balloon 10.1, and pass through apertures 18, 19 and onto member 11.2 to form balloon 10.2. The strands may be treated at 24, e.g. by aligning and stretching, or false twisting. Alternatively, Fig. 2, three strands are drawn from transverse spools 1, 2, 3, are passed through rotated members 23, 22 and 21 to twist-stop roller 7, and are then passed in the opposite direction while forming three balloons 10.1, 10.2 and 10.3. Again, Fig. 3, holders 5.1, 5.2, 5.3 of transverse spools 1, 2, 3 are mounted on bearings 8 on rotors 4.1 to 4.4 rotated by shaft 12. Strands 9.1, 9.2, 9.3 are passed through the rotors, passed around the holders by rollers 28 to 31, passed through twist-stop rollers 40, passed over roller 32, and are passed in the opposite direction while forming three balloons. Bobbin 1 may be replaced by a straightening arrangement 60 or a false twister, Fig. 4.
