Abstract

1477192 Bite indicator F W MULCHINOCK 17 Oct 1975 [17 July 1974] 31604/ 74 Heading A1AA bite indicator (Fig. 1) attachable to a rod by a spring clip 1 comprises a rectangular ring 2 from which hangs an elliptical element 3 of stiff paper, plastics or light metal, Bearing eyelets 4. The fishing line is threaded through one of the rod's lineguides (not shown) then through the eyelets 4 and on through the rod's next line guide, so that the element hangs from the horizontal rod, until a bite tensions the line, sliding the element through the ring until its major axis lies parallel to the rod. The side of the element's outer surface bearing the eyelets is coloured differently from the other side to enhance visual indication. A cylinder 8 containing lead shot and a transverse groove (not shown). in the interior surface behind the central eyelet 4 may be provided to stabilize the element 3 in its "rest" and "indicating" positions respectively, An alternative element (Fig. 4) includes a tongue 5 having a groove 6 to steady the element against the rod when in the "rest" position and a slit 7 which engages the line frictionally, making the indicator more sensitive.
