Abstract
1477097 Cluster explosive devices JUNGHANS GmbH Gebr 16 Sept 1975 37943/75 Heading F3A An explosive device which, together with like explosive devices 17, is to be mounted in a carrier 4, 5, 6 and ejected laterally therefrom over a target area when the carrier is discharged from a rocket casing 7 comprises, safety means having at least two independent safety devices of which the first is unlockable prior to discharge of the carrier, and releasable upon the lateral ejection of the explosive device, and the second is disengageable only after the lateral ejection of the explosive device. In the embodiment, the first safety device comprises a spring- loaded bolt 20 located in the nose of the explosive device and engaged in a recess 15 in a spring-loaded lateral ejector element 11 forming part of the carrier 4, 5, 6. The second safety device comprises a pin 31 that holds a detonator in a safety position and which is attached by a wire 32 to the carrier. When a rocket carrying the explosive devices is fired, compressed gas cartridges 26 are electrically detonated and safety pins 25 are driven out from locking engagement with the bolts 20 by the released gases. Over the target area, the carrier 4, 5, 6 is discharged from the rocket casing, and the ejector elements 11 are free to move outwardly under the action of springs 36 and eject the explosive devices 17 laterally from the carrier. The bolts 20, freed from the restraint of the elements 11, are ejected by springs 22 and release the run-down mechanism of fuzes carried by the explosive devices. When the explosive devices 17 have separated from the carrier by a distance corresponding to the length of the wires 32, the pin 31, comprising the second safety element, is withdrawn.
