Abstract

1476668 Calculating drug doses ASPRO-NICHOLAS Ltd 12 Nov 1975 [13 Nov 1974] 49098/74 Heading G4B A device for calculating the dose of a drug having a serum half-life dependent on renal function comprises a slide rule, linear or coaxial discs, having a cursor and scales representing an age range of patients (B), a weight range of patients (C) and a range of serum creatinine levels (D 1 or D 2 dependent on whether patient is male or female) and a further scale representing the dose for said patients (A). Scale A is fixed with respect to one of the others, in this embodiment it is scale D. To obtain the recommended dose datum line X on scale B is aligned with the patient's serum creatinine level on scale D, datum line 5 on the cursor is aligned with the patient's age on scale B, scale C is moved so that the patient's weight aligns with line 5, and the drug dose is obtained from scale A by the position of datum line Y. In another embodiment scale A represents initial dosages and the device is provided with additional scales (E-dose, F-weight) (Fig. 2, not shown) for determining the maintenance dose for said patient.
