Abstract

1476639 Controlling the height of potato-feeding conveyers RANSOMES SIMS & JEFFERIES Ltd 16 Jan 1975 [16 Jan 1974] 01944/74 Heading B8A [Also in Division A1] A feeler 25 pivotally mounted on the end of an endless belt potato feeder is given a periodic up and down reciprocation by being resiliently connected with a member 33. The latter engages a cam 35 carried by the drive shaft 23 of the conveyer belt return drum 7. An arm 27 rigid with the feeler 25 is loaded by a spring 41 into contact with a switch 19. When the latter is engaged in this way, an electro-hydraulic circuit is caused to energize a jack 17 in the sense required to lower the conveyer. When the feeler 25 engages the top of the potato pile, the arm 27 is caused to release the switch 19. This causes reversal of the action of the jack 17. In a modification (not shown), there are two switches, one controlling upward movement of the conveyer 1, the other controlling downward movement when the heap grows too high or too low respectively.
