Abstract

1476234 Piezoelectric igniters BRAUN AG 25 July 1974 [16 Aug 1973 17 Aug 1973] 32845/74 Heading H2A In a piezoelectric igniter, a hammer is normally held at rest in a position where it forms a closed magnetic circuit with a magnetic element fixed to the housing of the igniter, and the circuit includes at least one permanent magnet. In the igniter shown, a ferromagnetic hammer 4 is normally held at rest in contact with the pole plates 7 of a fixed permanent magnet 6, thereby to form a closed magnetic circuit, but if a cap 11 is pressed a spring 13 is energized and the hammer 4 is eventually released to be driven onto a transducer 2. Various other similar arrangements are described with reference to Figs. 2-7 (not shown); e.g. in Fig. 2, a compression spring (26) engages a shoulder portion of a ferromagnetic hammer (24); in Fig. 3, a jacket member (37) has a flange (38) for lifting a hammer (31) after impact; in Fig. 4, a central shank of an actuating cap (47) acts on a compression spring (44) mounted in a bore in a ferromagnetic hammer (42); in Fig. 5, a hammer includes a permanent magnet (55) and a yoke (54), and is normally retained by a fixed yoke (53); and in Figs. 6, 7, a fixed magnet (116) has pole plates (117) joined by a rivet (121), both the pole plates and the rivet being of sintered iron.
