Abstract

1475327 Stripping metal from substrates OXY METAL INDUSTRIES CORP 17 June 1974 [18 June 1973] 26740/74 Headings C7D and C7E An acidic composition for stripping metals from substrates comprises nitric acid or a mixture of nitric acid and sulphuric acid, and sources of chloride, Cu, and Te or Se ions, the chloride ions being present in concentration 0À01-0À5 M and the Te or Se ions being present in small amounts sufficient to increase the stripping rate without noticeable damage to the substrate. Stripping of Ni electro-deposits from stainless steel is referred to; the HNO 3 (approx 42‹BÚ) may be present in a concentration 4À5-14À5 M and the Te or Se ions 0À005 to 0À2 M; the source of Cl<SP>-</SP> may be NaCl, KCl, MnCl 2 , or CuCl 2 ; a preferred composition contains 2-10 g/l SeO 2 or TeO 2 , 600-850 g/l HNO 3 , 2-20 g/l CuSO 4 , CuCl 2 or Cu(NO 3 ) 2 , and 3À5-35À5 g/l of a Cl<SP>-</SP> source.
