1473517 Cementitious material COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 5 May 1975 [3 May 1974] 19573/74 Heading C1H [Also in Division E1 A material capable of withstanding compressive loading and yieldable over a range without failure comprises a mixture of a cement and colliery tailings the proportion by volume of colliery tailings to cement being between 2 : 1 and 6 : 1, the mixture having been set with water. A yieldable reinforcement (e.g. wire mesh) may be incorporated into the mixture before setting, for example in layers which may lie in planes perpendicular to the intended direction of load application. The material may be in the form of blocks which may be assembled into chocks. In the case of chocks, yieldable reinforcement (e.g. wire mesh) may be included between the bearing surfaces of the blocks in a plane normal to the direction of intended loading and further yieldable reinforcement may be provided around the blocks.
