Abstract

147,320. Lea, N., and Ree, J. May 24, 1919. Wireless telegraphy; electric oscillations, producing.-In a transmitting system employing a thermionic oscillation generator, signals are produced by a Morse key, interrupter, or both, placed between the filament and the negative side of the plate battery. The oscillatory circuit 7, 8 is connected on the one hand to the plate 6 and on the other hand through a condenser 9 to the filament 2. The high-tension supply is connected on its negative side 3 to the filament 2 through the key &c. 1, and on its positive side 10 to the plate 6 through the inductance 7. The negative side is also connected directly to the grid 5 through the grid inductance 4. When the key 1 is opened, the voltage appearing across its contacts, instead of causing arcing, increases the mean negative potential of the grid and reduces the plate current. The mean negative potential of the grid may be maintained by a battery in the grid circuit, or by a condenser and grid leak.
